A Perfect Christmas (Entry version)

The shrill sound of the doorbell jarred Alex awake. It was almost midnight and he knew only one person could need him at this hour.

“Soph, what happened?” Alex asked when he opened the door and Sophie promptly sobbed on his shoulders. Her heartbreaking wails told him her bastard boyfriend dumped her again as he led her to the couch and fetched her Toblerone and a can of Coke.

As Sophie attacked her food, Alex thought of one thing that will surely lift her up. Since Christmas was only a few days away, it’s time to do their own Christmas ritual since they’re children. He dragged the tree he bought near the window and went to get the boxes of decors. His urge to go after Brandon and do him bodily harm was curbed when Sophie’s face lit up upon seeing the colorful tree ornaments.

Alex handed her a silver bell and together, they put up all the trimmings for the tree. Sophie took out the last décor from the box – a star – and then promptly turned towards Alex and raised her arms. Alex wrapped his arms around her waist and hoisted her up as she placed the star on the treetop and giggled when Alex twirled around before putting her down.
“Feel better now?” Alex asked.
She nodded and smiled weakly. “I saw Brandon kissing his ex-girlfriend in his car this morning. When I confronted him earlier this evening, he didn’t deny it. Instead, he told me he still love his ex-girlfriend and left me. Oh Lex, it hurts so much. I thought he’s the right man. But he’s just the same as the other men out there who breaks their promises and just play with women’s emotions!”

“Not all men are like Brandon Soph,” Alex replied sharply. “There are men who can love and be faithful to only one woman.”

“How could you know that? Heck, even you didn’t have a relationship that lasted for six months!” Sophie railed at Alex.

Alex took offense, he shouted at Sophie. “I didn’t have long lasting relationship with those women because I have the misfortune of falling in love… I know just know that a man can love one woman alone deeply because I know a man who loves you so much, who’s willing to give you the world if you asked for it. However, you are just blind !”
“You’ve got to be kidding me!”
“I’m not currently rolling on the floor, aren’t I? For someone who’s a hopeless romantic, you’re so outrageously oblivious. Open your eyes and think hard, DAMN IT!”
Sophie decided to humor Alex and then out of the blue, realization sank in, as scenes from the past flashed before her: the boy who fought the children who were mean to her; the man who gave her things she wanted most; listened to her incessant, nonsensical chatter patiently; checked on her whenever he or she was away for days; cut his dates short if she needed him immediately; cancelled on friends just to go shopping with her; rejoiced when she broke up with a boyfriend.

Alex saw the dawning of truth in her expression. “Yes, I have the misfortune of falling in love with my best friend, who’s oblivious to my feelings. I have loved you for so long, because you were smart and spirited and kind to everyone. I have done everything I can to show you how I feel and even sang Westlife’s song ‘Obvious’ to you hoping it would budge you to see that I don’t feel brotherly towards you anymore.

And I’m willing to do more than that. I’ll hold your hand and put my arms around you while we stroll to show the world you’re mine. I’ll shout proudly to my friends how I love you with all my heart. I won’t mind going deaf listening to your gossips and prattle bizarre thoughts and questions because just being near you, hearing your voice and looking at you make my day complete. I would kiss you a million times each day and still couldn’t get enough. And most of all, I promise you I will never break your heart.”

Sophie’s only response was tears and laughter.

“This is not a joke, SOPHIE!”

“I am sorry, but this is so funny to me because I’ve been berating myself for years for falling in love with my best friend who I thought only thinks of me as her sister.”
“Hell, no brother in the world would willingly cancel on his dates or friends just to help his sister shop even if you bribe him.” Pause. “What made you think I only feel platonic love towards you?”

“One incident in high school convinced me of it. We were bickering and suddenly Ashley asked us if we’re a couple. You laughed like you found the notion so ridiculous.”
“Ah, you have a pretty convenient memory. You reacted first to Ashley’s statement by looking so horrified and shouted ‘No” as if Ashley asked you if you wanted to have your hands cut off.”
“I didn’t!”
“Yes, you did. And my ego was bruised so I just acted that way.”
“I’m sor…”
“Hush.” Alex moved towards Sophie and caressed her face. “It’s not important now. Let’s forget that stupid incident and deal with the present. I have enough of you crying over those worthless men.” He stared into her big brown eyes. “I love you Sophie Carter. Will you let me spend the rest of my life with you?”
“I love you too, Alexander Warrington. And YES, I want to spend my lifetime with you.”
And then they were locked in each other’s embrace and passionate kiss, with the lights on the tree twinkling in the background.

*******

Christmas Day.
“Thank you for a perfect Christmas,” Alex said, holding Sophie in his arms.
“Why it’s a perfect Christmas?”
“Because you made my wish come true.”
“And that wish is…”
“Letting me spend my lifetime with you.”

Going Home

Things hadn't changed much in the years she had been away. Not much at
all. There were a few new stores, the roads were in better shape, and the
city limits reached out a little further, but that seemed to be about it.

She couldn't believe she was back here. She had sworn she would never
come back. They say you can't go home, and yet here she was.

And he was still here too. She had asked enough questions to know that
much. He was here and he had no idea she was back. What would he do
when he came face to face with her? What would he do when he found out
why she had returned? What would he do when he found out what she was
after?

Okay, you get to go on from here.

2) For a moment time stood still.

Still...

OWritten: July 1, 2006

They're still inside
Still won't go away
A little bit has subside
Sarcasm was the way

Borne from days of keeping
Too much patience kills, I see
Not the offender, but the being
Who let things just be

For this long the heart's still heavy
It will take time to heal and be ready
Still there's hope, no need to worry
In time it will pass and still be happy.

Man is good by nature!

Orig. written: June 27, 2006

One of the unforgettable lessons I learned in Religion class in high school was that man was created in God's image and likeness therefore he is good in nature. It was the evil and temptation around him that makes him susceptible to do bad things. It's weakness that makes him go astray, not his genes or his soul. Even the most notorious criminal still possess some goodness in him.

Then on Sociology class in college we talked about Social Norms. Social Norms dictates the we live on Trust. For example, we trust the food vendors that they would not poison the food they sell to us, we trust the drivers of public vehicles to transport us safely to our destination etc. We coexist harmoniously because somehow, someway we trust those around us.

However today, it's sad to see people being so mistrustful of everyone around them. They think the people are out there to do them harm. That nobody is up to no good. That there are no goodness anywhere at all. Where was the trust that social norms should have instilled in us? Where is the belief that man is good deep inside? Does this mean they also think of themselves bad?

I think that until and unless these beliefs were reinforced back to mankind, the world would just continue to deteriorate and produce more evilness. People had gotten so paranoid to the point of madness in my opinion. People judge other people so quickly without even trying to get to know them better. People were so pessimistic and always cautious with everything because of the lack of trust in humans and in themselves.

I got dismayed when I see this happening around me. Probably because ever the optimist and so trusting, I still believe that there are still goodness in men. There is still hope. I still continue to trust and believe that NOT all people in the streets (and online) would do me harm. I know God and my guardian angel is looking out for me and would not let harm come to me.

I guess I am just too trusting for my own good then. I give strangers my trust easily and the chance to get to know them. If in the end they cannot be trusted then that's fine with me. At least I did not judge them so quickly. And I think I let the good in me outshine the temptation of shutting them out before having the chance to get to know them.

It doesn't hurt to be cautious but most of the time people shut themselves out just because they are cautious. And I think it's the same as shutting their hearts out to strangers who might be needing them. Isn't God's commandment summed up in one line that says "Love your neighbors"? If a person is faithless towards fellow mankind then I don't think that person follows God's commandments at all.

I know that doing good would make a person unpopular. People would always snigger behind his back and he will be ridiculed. That is the price to pay when doing good because goodness is so rare these days. I guess some people doesn't want to be ridiculed and made fun of for being good so they go along with the flow and instead of acting on their nature, they give in to temptation. Thus it is not always easy to do good.

My choice: people can ridicule me and make fun of me all they want. I still continue to trust strangers and give them the chance to get to know me and them.

What is your choice?

If only

Originally written on Wednesday, February 08, 2006

If only....

If only I could stop it
If only I could control it
If only I could block it
If only I could harden it

It's deep inside me
Swelling, beating relentlessly
Restlessness is what it brought me
So ceaseless, totally undistracted

Oh why does it have to be so soft?
Why can't I just reach in and pull it up?
Why won't you put me out of this misery?
Rise and be light, oh my heavy heart!

Don't Stop Looking For Love

Don’t Stop Looking for Love…

What is love? A thousand clichés arose over the years in the hopes to explain this comple x emotion but until now, none of those clichés has ever defined it. Love still remains as vague as ever.It has been proven that love is not always as good as it sounds. It often entails a lot of pain and sacrifices, yet people are still searching for this thing.

For those searching for it: Don’t hurry. Take your time. It will come in its right time and it will come looking for you. Just be prepared to welcome it when it comes. Be patient and the reward would be great. Don’t ever settle for second best. The heart cannot be taught how to love. It can feel on its won and it can know immediately if it has found its perfect pair. And when it starts to beat and thump, it can never me contained nor ignored nor put aside. It will manifest itself in the eyes and the outlook of the person.

For those who have love and failed, be optimistic. Don’t feel as if it’s the end of the world. That person was not meant for you and that means someone greater and better will come along. Don’t lose hope and don’t be afraid to take the risk. Life is about risk and victory will bever be achieved if no stakes will be taken. So don’t feel bad and don’t ever compare. Nobody is ever like. Even identical twins have differences. So don’t ever stop searching, do not ever be afraid to take the rist. But instead learn from past relationshois and then love again.

For those separated from their loved ones right now: Do not worry. If its your destiny to be together then it will happen. Time is just lending a hand to make you think and assess your feelings. It is making you go through a test and if you will pass – emerging at times with lots of bruises and pains – your feelings would be stronger. Then it would be easier to conquer the world because you are holding the proof of the strength of your love. Just continue to invoke God’s help to help you both make it through.

For those who have found their one true love, Congratulations! Consider yourself very fortunate because only few find it. It shows you have the patience to wait for it, the perseverance to deal with it, the kindness it desires, the mercy to forgive any mistakes, the humility to submit to it and the compassaion to bestow upon it.

Love does not easily burn out nor fade. So it needs to be nurtured everyday so it can blossom all the more and then it will grow stroinger and can carry on any trials that may come.

The Prologue of an Untitled Mystery story

PROLOGUE

The rain poured in heavy torrents in the inky darkness of the night. The wind was acting up in a frenzy, coming from different directions, howling and whipping up everything in sight. Thunder grumbled in the distance and lightning flashed across the sky, left and right, illuminating the lone figure bravely treading the flooded path towards the top of the hill. The figure swayed hard and almost toppled over the steep incline when the angry wind blew its full force. It’s as if the weather knew her intent and was trying to dissuade her from putting it into action. But it needs to be done.

The woman thought to herself. Even if it is against my will and even if doing it will be painful to me. And so with purpose and determination, she steadfastly fought the weather and went to the place where she knew she would find the person she was looking for.

In the house on top of a hill, a woman was perusing the book she held in front of her. She held the candle close to the page she just turned. As she scanned the page, her eyes suddenly opened wide in surprise and merriment. At last, she found the answer. As she read on, her face slowly transformed from shock to a smile, to a chuckle and suddenly burst out laughing as he finished the entire chapter.

"It was just so easy. The one I need was right in front of me all along," she blurted out loud. She closed the book with a snap, stood up and paced the length of her room, deep in thought, thinking of how to execute the things she just read.

She became so lost in thought that when the door slammed open, she jumped in fright. She whirled around to admonish the person who dared disturb her at this time of the night. Thinking that the intruder was a lost traveler in this storm, she was about to sent it away and told him he was not welcome when suddenly lightning illuminated the entire room.

"Crissy!" She gasped in shock when she saw that it was only her friend. But something different glinting in her eyes and bearing, she could tell.

"Good evening Tilda. Am I interrupting you?" Criselda asked. Her clothes was soaking wet and was drenching the carpet but Mathilda was rendered speechless for she has never expected this so soon. She still needs time to come up with an infallible plan.

"Of course not, Crissy. Come in, come in. You’re soaking wet. Take a sit and I will get you something to drink and some dry clothes." Mathilda replied.

"Do not trouble yourself Tilda. I won’t be long I just came here to tell you about a little problem I discovered and what I thought would be the best solution," said Criselda.

"Nonsense, my friend. You will get ill if you will not change to dry clothes." Tillie insisted.

And I need to stall you here. She chuckled to herself after silently breathing a sigh of relief as she went to the small kitchen and put the kettle over the fire. She admit she was frightened when she first caught a glimpse of her friend at the door earlier. The chill in Crissy’s eyes startled her but now she knew she was just imagining it. Her friend has just come to talk about problems, just like in the past. For a while there, she thought Crissy has learned about her plans.

"So, what is this problem you have discovered?" Mathilda asked after she gave Crissy a towel to dry her hair and her clothes.

"Remember how Master Zhor used to tell us that the we have reached the summit of our powers, and that we are powerful if we combine them and work together? " Tilda nodded and remembered the numerous times their old master has imparted those words to them."Well, I have discovered that we could become the most powerful being here on earth."

"Really? How could that be?" Chrissy feigned shock at that discovery when in fact she wanted to laugh out loud for that is just the thing she discovered tonight.

JM Fan Fiction: Adventure in New York

“Did you hear what I just said, Victoria?” Jason Fielding asked.“Yes I heard you and yes I understand as I did the first time you told me.” His wife answered in a disgruntled voice. “I believe that is the hundredth time you told me that and I swear Jason, you are succeeding in ruining my day.” She finished with a scowl.

The Marquis and Marchioness of Wakefield are currently in New York because Jason and his business partners are embarking on another new business and they are going to meet with their contact to finalize everything. Jason decided to bring his wife along so that they could see together the newly built Patrick Seaton Memorial Hospital in Portage which he built in honor of Victoria’s father. When his friends learned that he is bringing his wife, they also thought it was a splendid idea so they brought theirs too.

They had arrived the night before and so, for the last hour, Jason has been telling Victoria again and again not to venture to the streets if they are not accompanied by any man because the streets are not safe for ladies alone. He told them that they have to remain in the hotel and wait for them to come back from their meeting so they all could go wander and see the sights together.

“The meeting won’t be long, half an hour the most it would take, so you should wait for us.” Jason said.

“Did you forget that I grew up in this country? I swear those stories you heard were just rumors, my lord,” Victoria said as they were walking down the stairs to meet their friends.

“Victoria, you lived in a remote place which I am very sure was filled with goodhearted people and is not dangerous in the least. But this is the city and life here is different. There are thugs everywhere here.”“If you say so, my lord, I do not wish to argue anymore.” She replied and hastily skipped down the steps.

Jason was rendered speechless for a moment and he groaned in exasperation. How his wife managed to turn the conversation around, he could not comprehend. Now, she made it seem that he has offended her one way or another when all he had done was merely caution her.He was not able to say anything to his wife anymore then because he caught sight of their friends gathered in one corner.

From the faces of the ladies, he could surmise that the gentlemen were also giving their wives a piece of their minds about the dangers of the streets in New York. And all of their expressions were not different from what Victoria has shown him earlier.

Whitney Allison Westmoreland, the Duchess of Claymore, suddenly looked up, saw Victoria coming and rudely walked off in the middle of Clayton’s sentence to greet her friend. The other ladies’ face suddenly lit up too for a reprieve from their husbands’ admonition. Alexandra Townsende, the Duchess of Hawthorne, Sheridan Westmoreland, Countess of Langford, Julianna DuVille, Countess of Glenmore and Elizabeth Thornton, the Marchioness of Kensington, hurried forward to hug Tory as their respective husbands, Jordan, Stephen, Nicki and Ian turned to greet Jason too. A few minutes and a last round of reminder later, the gentlemen went on their way and left the ladies talking among themselves.

An hour has passed before the ladies felt the boredom and restlessness of being cooped up and doing nothing. “Our husbands have not arrived until now. I am sure they lost track of the time. What do you say if we just go to the shop next door?” Alexandra suggested.

“That would be no problem I think since it’s only a few feet away,” Whitney added hopefully.Sheridan looked at Victoria and said, “Tory, what do you think?”

Victoria, who has been longing to walk outside, just can’t contain her agreement. “I think our husbands were just exaggerating about the perils of the streets here. I have grown up here and I have never known about murders and thieves roaming the streets.”

“So that means we can go and still be safe?” Elizabeth asked.“I don’t think there’s going to be a problem. After all, it’s very near.” Julianna piped in.

They all stood up and grinned happily when their happiness was doused when somebody blocked their path and said, “So sorry, ladies, but I have been told by your husbands to keep my eyes on you and not let you step even one foot on the pavement outside this door. So I am standing guard.”

Jake Wiley finished his sentence with a squirm when he saw the indignant faces and sharp looks that were being sent his way. “How dare he!” Elizabeth exclaimed, and the others spoke aloud their disagreement. But Jake admirably held his ground despite the ladies attempt to reason, argue, sweet-talk and even bribe him.

Suddenly, their conversation was interrupted by a scream and shout from across the street. They all looked up to see a girl of about twelve to fifteen years old being hurtled from the inside of one of the shops in it. Less than a second later, a man came out of the same door and kicked the scampering girl in the back with all his might and she was sprawled in the dirt once more.

Victoria, Whitney and the rest of the ladies gasped in horror at the scene before them. They all tried to push Jake out of their way to help the girl but he won’t stir. One minute Jake was standing firm and unmoving but the next second he was doubled over in pain. “I’m sorry Jake, I don’t want to do it but you leave me no choice. Come on ladies!” Alexandra called over her shoulder. She was the one who punched Jake in the abdomen, just to loosen his stance so that she and the rest of the ladies could go and help the girl. When they arrived at the scene, the man is still beating and kicking the whimpering girl.

“I should have let you die, you ungrateful bitch!” The man screamed. And to the astonishment of the ladies, the three men who were standing on the sides were giving encouragement to the man doing the beating.

“Hey mister, stop beating that girl!” Whitney shouted. The man paused, looked up and replied “Stay out of this bitch, this is none of your concern.”

“You are abusing her, stop it now or you’ll have to deal with us!” Alex shouted back at him.The three men on the sides suddenly focused their attention on the ladies and laughed at them.“You think you’d make Harold stop in one of his fits?” One of them asked incredulously and erupted into gales of mirth again. “You sound funny. Guess you’re not from here. Wanna have a good time? Lemme show you how,” one of them said which made the other two erupt into laughter again.

“Harold, look at these girls. Betcha they’d taste good.” One of them remarked.“I’ll take that red hair. She looks mighty fine to me,” the other one said.

However, the ladies and Harold were not listening to them because they were intent on their goal. Harold was raising his hands to slap the girl when suddenly he found himself stumbling on the pavement. Somebody struck him on the back of his knees. When he looked back he saw that it was the one of the ladies with a stick on her hand.“You bitch! Now you will get what you’re wanting.” Harold shouted.

Don't Fall in Love, I Tell You

Don't fall in Love, I tell you!

If I could give you one best advise, that is: DO NOT FALL IN LOVE! There are a lot of valid reasons why you should not get into this thing.

YOU HAVE A FUNNY FEELING IN YOURSELF. Yes this is one of the first symptoms of you falling in love. You feel a certain restlessness in your heart that is hard to stop and ignore. Your heart kept on beating fast along with an indescribable feeling. It’s as if you are floating in the air and soaring like the wind. You can't eat and think well.

YOU BECOME PARANOID. Believe me this is true because you are always seeing other people as him – may those people be fictional or real. When you read a book you will say the hero in the book is really him. When you watch television, it is his face you see in every male models and actors. When you listen to music, you believe it is him that the song describes. Now tell me – isn’t that paranoia?

YOU WILL BE MISTAKEN AS CRAZY. When you are in love, thoughts of him bombarded your mind day in day out and the result is you can not stop smiling. You are smiling all by yourself and sometime you laugh out loud alone when you remember his corny joke or his melodious praise to you. Even when you just come from your boss after being reprimanded you still come out of it full of smiles. Now what will other people who saw you think? You’re going crazy and that’s it.

YOU BECOME A BROKEN RECORD. You do not know how this happen? Isn’t it that he is always what you talk about to your friends? You cannot seem to stop singing praises about him but come to think of it you are always repeating everything to your friend. He is this. He is that and more. But to your friends’ ear you are already like a broken record because you have told them that detail dozens of times already. ( They’re your friends so they just kept quiet.)

Now, you see what I mean? It would make you crazy and look like a fool. Are you still be willing to fall for it now that you've become aware of the not-so-good symptoms? I heard some tidbits though that once you've overcome this syptoms and get the lasting effect, it was quite heavenly. It's up to you then. *shrug*

He Says, She Says: The Sandini's story Part 2

He says, she says: The Sandini's story (Sharon's version)

**Note: Before you can jump to the conclusion that Dominic Sandini is real, I am making things clear now. LOL! Dominic Sandini is a character in Judith McNaught's novel "Perfect". He was my claimed hubby in JM board before. :D So sorry to shatter to illusion if you think I already have a love life. **

How did Dom and I meet? Well, there was nothing really extraordinary about it.I clearly remembered it was one of my bad days. It was a Saturday and I got up on the wrong side of the bed which turned my life 360 degrees around. I dragged myself out of bed and then managed to drop everything - my toothbrush, my hairbrush and my towel. Not to mention that I burnt my breakfast (I had a crunchy fried eggs) and my finger that day. Top top it all, the neighbors chose that day to have an early morning shouting match. It was not ten am yet and I already had a pounding headache.I also discovered that I only had one egg in my fridge and nothing in my cupboards so I decided to go out and do some grocery shopping.

And so I went to the supermarket near my place. When I arrived at the store, I searched in my bag for my list but I can't find it. Great, I had to do a lane by lane trek then. And I grabbed a cart and proceeded to the next lane. And I bumped into this guy who wast trying to be charming, and greeted me good morning. There was nothign good in my morning so I ignored him and acted as if I didn't see him. Then I just get on with my grocery shopping. In the "Confectionary" dept, I grabbed a small pack of Minstrels and put them in my cart when another guy sauntered up to me and asked me if i knew where the meat section is. Hello? Do I look like I work there? I wasn't normally rude, and I always try to be friendly but that day i decided to act unkindly. I told him straight in his face that Sorry, i don't work here. And immediately head out towards the cashier. There i saw Mrs. Tilden, the old lay who lives across my street and since I was never a morning person and I find it hard to converse in long sentences in the morning, I just smiled at her.

I then loaded my bags in car and after a mile from the grocery store, my car just stopped. I don't know anything about cars and so I just opened the hood and gazed at the complex machine there without even an inkling on what to check. Luckily, somebody came after a few minutes and he went out of his car and came to me. But then I felt a littel fear ran down my spine. What if this man is a criminal or a maniac?

I was about to panic when he told me he is Maria Sandini's son, Dominic. Mrs. Sandini was a customer in our office and I just helped her with my refund, which was no big deal since that is what i do, but she took it as a big help on my part. So almost every week she stopped by on my office and gave me her homemade salami (which I give to my friend to feed her dog since I alwasy have indigestion the three times i tried to eat it). He asked me what did his Mama say about him and I told him that he just came out from some institution for his lesson. He then asked me if he could try fix my car!Ok, so this guy was an ex-con and he wants to fix my car? No way, high way! I knew he was arrested for stealing automobiles. And maybe my apprehension showed in my face and he assured me he has changed now. I agreed to let him take a look at my car, provided that I will shoot him incase he will try to run away with it. He looked insulted but a lady has just got to be smart. So he relented and after a few minutes, my carwas up and running.

I thanked him and asked him how much should I pay him. He said he will only take payment in kind and that should be a lunch at my house. I reluctantly gave in because he would not be swayed. And so, that day, I have Spaghetti on my lunch menu and the cocky guy has managed to take over my cooking. He even boasted that he cooked the best and I said yeah, whatever plus rolling of the eyes. However, he did cook spaghetti really well. I told him i love Italian foods and it must have been the wrong thing to say coz he pompously replied he's italian and therefore he's the best authority when it comes to Italian cooking. Since then he came to my house most of the time unannounced, and when I refuse to let him in or find excuses, he would say that he has spag or pizza or pasta with him. And it's my weakness, so I gave in.

One day, I came home from work very tired that I slept immediatley without turning any lights on. Suddenly I was awakened from my slumber with the ratting of my back door, in my kitchen. So I stealthily went down the stair grabbing a wooden rod along the way. I saw a silhouette of a man in my kitchen and aimed the rod at him. But his reflex is good that he managed to evade it and he ran towards the light. i was so surprised it was Dominic that I was prepared to lash out at me for scaring me. But the stupid guy grabbed my face and kissed me until, I admit, I became senseless. That man can kiss.

When we gasped for air, awareness suddenly sink in and I so wanted to slap him but he charmed his way by offering me his homemade pizza and how could I resist? I just forgot about slapping him but acted as if nothing happened and just enjoyed the pizza. Then we talked the night away, having a good laugh about anything we could think of.

Three weeks after, he asked me to marry him. I was so shocked. I was not prepared, I don't think he's the right man for me, I came up with dozens of excuses that night. But he bribed me. He told me that he would willingly cook for me every night, he would drive me anywhere, he would be a good husband, he would let me read all the time I want, and it would make his Mama happy. So who could say no to that. Besides, we make each other laugh, we enjoy each other's company so at last i said yes to him.

One month after that, we were married in a simple but big ceremony. I said big because all his family was there and there were dozens and dozens of them. My friends were surprised because I havent spoken about him to any of them and suddenly they just heard i married him. That is our story.

HE SAYS: Dominic's Version

My marriage to my wife shocked a lot of people because it was so abrupt. But then it was what my wife was saying to them. But the truth is, I have known her for some months and have been keeping an eye on her. The problem is, my wife, Sharon was oblivious to everything most of the time, especially to men. By the way, my name is Dominic Carlo Sandini and this is the story of how I met my wifeShe came greatly recommended by my mother.

Mama Sandini was not content until all her children were happily married and have produced a dozen or so grandchildren for her. One day, she came home, flushed and beaming and eagerly told me she had a surprise for me. Since she had a lot of packages that day, I eagerly sorted out the bags and looked for a present, which I thought she bought for me. But, she gave me a piece of paper with an address on it instead and gallingly informed me that she found me a wife. Hah! I could only think, for I could never interrupt Mama in her ramblings. And she went on and on about how she met his sweet and helpful and lovely lady. And in that instance, she concluded that the lady would suit me as a wife.

They met when she was trying to refund her plane ticket and no one was minding her. But this lady noticed her and helped her get her money back.“I am very sure she is the one who could change you, my dear boy!” Imagine my mother telling me that. I felt as if I was the most notorious person in the world. Ok, ok, I admit I had been to prison for stealing automobiles and I’d been arrested sixteen times before I turned twenty eight. So you could lower your eyebrows now. Besides, I have suffered and paid for it, thanks a lot to my Uncle Enrico. Now, I am trying hard to be good. Besides, my good friend Zack Benedict has given me a legal business this time – a used-car sales lot. Don’t want to disappoint him and he made me promise I’d change. And I did.

So anyway, my Mama nagged me everyday to go see the lady whom she approved as a wife for me. She told me that this woman is a true lady, helpful to others especially the elders, so polite, soft-spoken, smart, funny and lovely. Now, now, my Mama was describing a saint there. Nobody as in no one in this world could have that much positive side. So I decided to take a peek at this epitome of goodness my mother was crazy about. For two reasons: one, to stop my mother from nagging me everyday and two, she indeed perked my interest. It is hard to please my Mama and a lot of my ex-girlfriends used to cry a lot because my Mama could be so blunt and honest, her words could cut like dull blade to the skin.

And so, one fine day, I found myself with nothing to do, so I decided to drop by the address Mama gave me.Thump, thump, thump. Bog, bog, bog. I swear I heard my heart the first time I laid my eyes on her. It was a Saturday morning, I remember, so I parked my car opposite from her house and was watching for signs of life. Suddenly, a loud argument turned into a full-blown shouting match emanated from her left-door neighbors. Less than thirty minutes later, her front door opened and there emerged a sight not sore to the eyes. In fact, it was cool to the eyes. She stands about 5’2”, tan-skinned, long wavy black hair and passably pretty. I couldn’t ask for more. I was grinning like a fool then and there because I know I already want her. If Mama was beside me, I would have hugged her and kissed her.She got on her vehicle and I discreetly followed her, a car or two behind.

She stopped at the supermarket and so I also followed her to it. I saw her reaching inside her purse, looking for something. After a few minutes she gave up what she was searching for and then grabbed a cart and proceeded towards the first lane. “Looks like now’s the time to approach her.” I said to myself and nonchalantly walked up to the opposite end of the lane so that we would me at the end.I was right on time. I turned the corner just as she was turning too and she bumped her cart into me accidentally. It was as if the hands of fate was helping me and so I pasted on a charming smile and said “Oopps, sorry about that Miss. Good morning to you.”
However, two seconds later, my smile turned into a frown, because she just looked at me as though I am no there and went towards the next lane – without even saying a word.I thought Mama said she was sweet. You fool, you haven’t introduced yourself to her yet. Naturally, she might think you’re stalking her.Oh, right, I need to think of a suave way to approach her again.I silently argued with my self. And so, I followed her slowly, as she went from lane to lane, while I was trying to come up with a smooth way to introduce myself to her.An opportunity came when we came to the sweets section.

There was only the two of us in that lane. I saw her take out a pack of Galaxy Minstrels chocolates, a Toblerone bar, and an Alpine White Chocolate bar. Then after a second, she returned them back. She put them in her cart again. She was undecided, I knew. I was tempted to laugh and tell her they wont hurt her but I wisely held my tongue and so casually I went to her and asked, “Uhmm, Miss, do you know where the meat section is?”As an answer, she looked pointedly at the apron-clad assistant who came around the corner in the middle of my question, and with glaring eyes, tartly replied, “Do I look like I work here?”So much for being suave, Sandini, I thought to myself and restrain the urge to scratch my head in despair. I watched her approach the check out counter and looked at her as she smiled at the old lady ahead of her.

Dejectedly, I sauntered towards my car, hoping that inspiration would strike. I saw her emerge from the supermarket and loaded the shopping bags to her car. I never offered to help for she will just glower at me for sure. I watched her car as it disappeared around the bend.Inspiration did strike. After a few minutes of thinking about what to do, I started my car and decided to take a look if she arrived safely.

I just traveled for only a mile when I saw her – in the middle of the street at high noon, taking a look at her car’s machine with the hood up.Oh how I could shout with glee for the golden opportunity. I came up to her and greeted her good morning. At first, I saw fear on that pretty face but after a while, I saw recognition dawn on her face as the guy in the supermarket earlier. I still felt her apprehension and so I told her that I am the son of Maria Sandini.

“You are Dominic?” she asked me, surprised.
“Yeah, I am. You know me?” I replied. She nodded her head and said that Mama has told her about me.
“What did she say about me?” I asked.
“Well, er, she told me you’re her youngest son and that you er, ehm, just came out from, ah, some place where, you….you have to learn some lessons.”

I stifled my laugh, knowing that my blunt Mama would never try to cover my past with those “kind” words. “That’s good. At least now you know I am not some criminal?” I asked, which I think was wrong of me because she looked at her car and me doubtfully, thinking for sure about the reason why I was arrested. However, I told her that she can put a gun to my head as I look at it and she can shoot me if I will attempt to run away with it. And that seemed to relieve her because I swear I saw her relax her stance. Her car just stopped working and she doesn’t know why. Therefore she doesn’t know how to fix it. I looked at her car, found the problem immediately and fixed it.

Then she thanked me profusely and invited me to her house which I accepted wholeheartedly. We entered her small but neat house, and she told me she is preparing lunch – spaghetti. With a flourish, I volunteered to cook it and she looked at me doubtfully but turn over the ingredients to me. She then told me that she adore Italian food – all kinds of pasta and pizza and she could live on them every day. Well, I gladly told him I am an Italian (as if she didn’t know from my looks) and told her that I cook the best spaghetti. Boy, how impressed was she.

She exclaimed over and over how delicious my spaghetti was and told me again and again that Spaghetti was her favorite food. And since then she cannot refuse to see me, it’s what I use to bribe her just to go out with me or let me come to her house.

One time, when I came to her house, she was not there for there was no visible light. So I decided to surprise her and hid in her dark kitchen, with a box of pizza. I was an expert in those things, you know. It’s a good thing my reflexes are fast. I was able to duck in the last second, narrowly missing the wood that should have hit my head. It seems that she was asleep upstairs on her bedroom when I arrived and heard me rattling her backdoor. She tiptoed silently towards the kitchen with the intention of beating the intruder away. I managed to elude her blows until I put on the light and only then she’d stopped.

When she recognized me at last, she stopped and apologized to me, and then I felt like the rug was pulled out under me. She kissed me then and there. And who am I to balk away from that! Man, I am not a saint, I am only human. And so with so much gusto, I kissed her back until we both come up for air, and she looked at me sheepishly. To make her forget her embarrassment, I opened the pizza and told her we’ll eat. We managed to turn the pizza dinner into one of the happiest nights of my life. We just talked and life, she laughed at my jokes and she made me laugh with her words. Boy, I never met anyone who has made me laugh that much in a few hours.Three weeks after, she asked me to marry her because she doesn’t think she could live without my pizza and pasta. And who am I to refuse. Of course I accepted her proposal much to Mama’s delight.

And one month after, we were married in a simple ceremony.Next thing I knew, we were congratulated by her friends, and all were exclaiming about our sudden and surprise wedding. It was because she has never told anyone that we were seeing each other

Ode to my favorite books

Written on August 24, 2005

I made this poem by using all the titles of Judith McNaught books - my ultimate favorite author.

I still remember when I first saw you
You're so perfect, too good to be true
Something wonderful fluttered inside me that day
And I just knew you're someone to watch over me

Even the night whispers they agree
Your presence bring miracles and changed my life
That I never thought there were angels until you
I was in paradise when you said you love me too

The two of us together was such a tender triumph
It was a kingdom of dreams coming true
From then on my world is always almost heaven
I pledge my love to you in double exposure

Double standards
will have no place in our lives
I adore you, my love, and bear this in mind
Every breath you take all your life
I love you for only once and always
